Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Fanjiaping, Yunxi County, Hubei. It was named by Zhu Hongyuan et al. in 1992.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone and Sandstone. Composed mainly of gray and dark-gray biocalcirudite and gray-white dolomitic limestone intercalated with yellow-gray moderately thick to thick-bedded quartzose sandstone. Thickness 308.7 m.


Lithology Pattern:

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Yuanjiagou Fm

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Upper Carboniferous Xiaoyaozi Fm

Regional extent

Distributed in the northwestern Hubei and southern Shaanxi areas. This formation can be correlated with the Shidengzi Fm to the Zimenqiao Fm of central Hunan, and equivalent to the Lueyang Fm at Wudu, Gansu. Coeval with the Sixiakou Fm (same column 44).
